Capitalism Sucks
The Editorial, by Newman
What? You thought capitalism ruled? Well think again buddy. The title up there says it all. Oh... you want some kind of evidence? Well forget it; this is The Underground, we don't provide that sort of thing, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
Well... ok. I guess I'll give one example. Remember a couple weeks ago when the stock market crashed over 500 points and your parents told you that you couldn't go to college anymore? Luckily it recovered everything, preserving your college education, but on that day that it dropped, some people lost a lot of money.
For example, Bill Gates lost $1.76 billion. That's 1,760,000,000 dollars! (or approximately the GNP of Tampa, FL, what it would take to feed Zimbabwe for a year, or Tosa East's annual athletic budget.) How much does Gates have now? Like 30 or 40 billion? Damn. Now, I'm not all anti-Microsoft like Mr. Luder, but that's just too much money. How'd he get that much? I have no idea, but I don't know how someone could have that much money and still be able to sleep at night knowing that there are people who don't even have a home.
You know Nike CEO Phil Knight? He only lost $269 million. You know, Nike, the place that makes your shoes. Well, actually the shoes are made by 14 year old girls in Indonesia making 10 cents an hour, but there's nothing unusual about that nowadays... thanks to capitalism. I mean, right now I'm wearing a shirt that was made in China. At least my jeans were made in the U.S., but my underwear... God knows where that came from.
Anyway, let's move to Canada, or France or something. They're kind of socialist there (as am I). Plus, je parle francais.
